True greatness

(See Matthew 18:1-5)

Where is the "little child" we would become,
the child the Master said to emulate?
Does not the human ego balk in some,
and seek an easy way to be called "great"?
To vie with one another before God,
to make a worldly mark within His plan,
is but a vain obsession with the rod
of false opinion measuring mortal man.
Did not the Master ask a simple thing —
convert your thought, in humbleness believe,
and prove how true the greatness this would bring
to all who sense deny, his word receive?
The "little child" is here, a thought away.
So take its hand and greatness prove today.
