Bible Notes PULLOUT SECTION
Related to the Lesson-Sermons for November 1987
Each Lesson-Sermon published in the Christian Science Quarterly—Bible Lessons is designed to be complete in itself. Its Bible references (King James version) are corroborated and explained by passages from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. These Bible Notes are offered by the Christian Science Sentinel as indications of the possibilities for individual research.
Little children, let no man deceive you (I John 3:7)
The deep affection the author of this epistle feels for the Christians he addresses is communicated in the phrase (one word in Greek) "little children." The Greek teknion is a term of endearment and intimate relationship. Jesus addressed his disciples this way at a poignant moment (see John 13:33); Paul used the term to the Galatians in yearning desire for their Christian rebirth (see Gal. 4:19); and it is a keynote, occurring seven times, in this epistle of John.
