As a child I loved reading the Christian Science periodicals
As a child I loved reading the Christian Science periodicals. They were precious to me. They brought comfort during times of sadness or sickness. I rejoiced in the helpful testimonies shared by those who applied the truths of Science to their problems. I, too, wish to share some of the good that has come into my experience over many years of studying and practicing Christian Science.
During my teens I became seriously ill one summer. My family and I turned to God in prayer for help. We held steadfastly to the knowledge that my true being as the likeness of God, good, was untouched by error or evil of any kind. We knew that the only power is God's power.
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy states (p. 495): "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought. Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is—can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not." I was completely unafraid. I knew that nothing could separate me from God's love. I felt a clear sense of my true spiritual selfhood.
After some time the healing came very suddenly. I knew I was well. Whatever the trouble had seemed to be, it had been lifted from me. I was free. What rejoicing there was in our family!
Another very precious experience for me was the healing of a troubled marriage. When World War II broke out, my husband and I had been married for three years. My husband was called into service and soon left to serve in the Middle East. I served as a volunteer in the South Pacific. During these years we grew apart. In the course of my work, I lost my sweet sense of joy, and life seemed meaningless.
After more than four years apart we returned to take up where we had left off. It seemed we had nothing left on which to rebuild a marriage. But my husband, who was not a Christian Scientist although he had always attended church with me, felt that we should turn to the truth as taught in Christian Science to find what we needed. We read and sincerely studied the chapters entitled "Prayer" and "Marriage" in Science and Health.
Within a short time the healing took place. Whatever it was that had seemed to separate us dropped away. We both felt a return of love and joy and a sense of direction and purpose.
The healing became a steppingstone for both of us to become serious students of Science. I have had many healings through prayer, but these are two that have served as waymarks for me. Subsequent to these healings we both have had class instruction from authorized teachers of Christian Science. We are members of The Mother Church and active members of a branch church, which we helped to organize, in the area where we now live.
Challenging experiences continue to present themselves, but each challenge has been met through the application of Christian Science. Our continuing assurance of freedom and well-being is expressed by these lines from Hymn 136 in the Christian Science Hymnal: "Thy presence ever goes with me / And Thou dost give me peace." Is it any wonder we feel so blessed and so loved!

The healing of our marriage, as given by my wife, was as she has stated it. The healing was so perfect that each year has brought greater joy and love into our lives.
I, too, wish to express my gratitude for Science, for membership in The Mother Church, and for membership in our branch church.
