Some time ago I was unemployed
Some time ago I was unemployed. Not only did I lack a job; I also lacked a clear sense of direction in life, with the added pressure of having to pay back a bank loan. I made a few desperate attempts to change my circumstances, but these proved unsuccessful.
Then I decided to work more on what I knew could be changed—my thought about the situation. In other words, I went straight to the heart of the matter. This Bible passage has been of great help to me in discerning man's true purpose (Isa. 43:6, 7): "Bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him."
Through prayer, and through my study of the Bible and of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I gained a more spiritual view of myself and the situation. I began to see that as God's man I live to glorify Him. I am fully employed in the expression of such divinely derived qualities as joy, intelligence, and resourcefulness. I loved the thought of being employed in my Father's service in this way.
