One of the first healings I remember occurred during a trip I took with my parents. We had spent a busy day traveling, and that night when I settled down to sleep, my ear suddenly began to hurt. My mother was a Christian Scientist, and I had been attending a Christian Science Sunday School, so our thoughts naturally turned to God for help.
Since the pain made it impossible to sleep, I asked my mother to read me the twenty-third Psalm, as spiritually interpreted on page 578 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Here the word Love is substituted for the references to Lord. The substitutions emphasize the loving aspect of God's nature, and it was this love that comforted me. The first verses read: "[Divine love] is my shepherd; I shall not want. [Love] maketh me to lie down in green pastures." I felt certain that God cared for me, right then and always. It wasn't long before the earache left and I was completely healed.
I have had many other physical healings through prayer alone. These include a bone infection in the area of my wisdom teeth, headaches, and a tendency toward recurring colds. In addition, Christian Science has been an invaluable help in my studies at college.
