In looking back I can see that at the happy moment when my family learned of Christian Science, my life took on a whole new dimension.
When I was a child my father died quite suddenly, leaving my mother to raise three small children on her own. An aunt of mine took pity on our family and came to live with us. Still, although we were never in want financially, there was much inharmony in our home.
All the years when I was growing up and into adulthood I suffered with heart trouble. Both my mother and I feared my nights of mental anguish. The thought of death was always in the background. We lived in a small country town near the churchyard, and I remember that it seemed to me the bells were always tolling for funerals.
