Acts of God
Avalanches, earthquakes, tidal waves, volcanic eruptions. "Acts of God" they are still occasionally called in legal documents.
Our first thought when these disasters of incredible magnitude come is usually, How can I help? Then, after we've prayed and contributed whatever support we can, we may find ourselves feeling the impact of the question many ask: How can the world go on believing in a God who permits such horrors?
The short answer to the question is, It can't. Increasingly, people reject disasters as having any possible relation to God and His acts.
