Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in making reference to conciliation and peace, says: "To aid in this holy purpose is the leading impetus of my life. Many years have I prayed and labored for the consummation of 'on earth peace, good will toward men.' " The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 283. See also Miscellany, chap. XV, "Peace and War," pp. 277–286. She also includes these guiding words in her Manual of The Mother Church: "It shall be the duty of the members of The Mother Church and of its branches to promote peace on earth and good will toward men. ..." Man., Art. VIII, Sect. 16. It is in this context, and with the desire to keep all well informed on the subject, that we make the following announcement:

In February 1986, a remarkable new book goes on sale in bookstores and in Christian Science Reading Rooms throughout the United States and abroad. Its title: How Peace Came to the World. Even before publication, the book has drawn a great deal of attention from the press and from senior statesmen.

Ronald Reagan, President of the United States, has said of it: "... we can all work to encourage the intrinsic good and peaceful nature that is in all of us. And we must work for the establishment of this nature, now, in the real world, where violence and aggression are an all-too-common feature of everyday life.
