When I was nineteen a friend invited me to visit the Christian Science...

When I was nineteen a friend invited me to visit the Christian Science Sunday School in a branch church. I was a member of another Protestant church, where I attended the Sunday School. Many questions about God and man concerned me, but I wasn't looking for another affiliation. I expected to remain where I was.

That one visit to a Christian Science Sunday School touched me, however. The questions I asked the teacher were answered simply and with surety. A hope was aroused in me that I could know and understand God and learn something of man's unity with Him. Whereas I had gone with the intent to put down what I thought Christian Science to be, now I wanted only to hear more of this message. I made arrangements to attend the Sunday School as a regular pupil. I didn't want to miss one lesson. There was much opposition from my family, but my mother finally agreed to my attending regularly.

When I was no longer eligible to attend Sunday School, I applied for membership in the branch church and in The Mother Church. Again, there was intense opposition, this time from the church I had formerly belonged to as well as from my family. Yet my desire to be a part of the Church of Christ, Scientist, was so strong that I felt nothing could stand in my way. I was confident that God had led me to this Science and that He would continue to show me the way. Everything worked out, and I was so grateful when I was accepted for membership.
