I am grateful for many healings that have been the result of my study and application of the teachings of Christian Science. As a child, I was thought of as shy. When I became an adult, this was even more pronounced because I thought of myself as inadequate, a misfit. I felt very sorry for myself.
At one point what appeared to be a goiter developed. My natural response was to turn wholeheartedly to God for healing. I prayed continually to replace self-centered thoughts with God-centered thoughts. In humility I endeavored to be unselfish and grow in grace. I diligently studied the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy to learn of my true identity as the image of God, enveloped in His love. As extreme sensitiveness and selfishness yielded to the truth of God and man, the growth in my throat dissolved. I was so grateful to be healed of the growth as well as of shyness, and I rejoiced over having learned something of my innate spiritual perfection as God's likeness.
One year while we were on vacation, my husband passed on quite suddenly and unexpectedly. One of the first thoughts that came to me was "Are you going to let grief engulf you, or are you going to be grateful for the good years you shared together?" I decided to be grateful!
