Lean a little harder

When I was in high school, I was very much in need of a summer job. At the time the best place to find one was at a summer resort. About a month before the season began, I made a special trip to a seaside vacation area to find out what work was available. I also visited a friend who lived there and told her of my need. I returned home filled with confidence, feeling quite certain that a summer job would take shape, although I had received no assurance from anyone whom I had interviewed.

A few days before school ended I received a letter from my friend, telling me that if I came at once there might be a position available near her home. Might be! Dauntless, I packed my bag with the clothing I needed, and I mentally stashed it with confidence, expectation, and joy. Off I went. I also took my precious books, the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

To get to this seaside resort I had to take a train. When I was settled comfortably for the long ride ahead, I took out my textbook to read it. I pondered for a few moments, wondering where I should start to read. I was not a very experienced Christian Scientist, and I had often turned to my mother for guidance, but this was a new ball game. I had to lean on God, and my faith in Him was unshakable. I loved Him and trusted Him implicitly.
