A family conversation: How did we become Christian Scientists?
For four generations, Christian Science has been a way of life for my family. Some people become intrigued with exploring their roots—including their family genealogy and history. But when I decided to research my family, it was our spiritual roots that interested me.
I am deeply thankful to my family for giving me the firm foundation and freeing understanding of reality that Christian Science provides. This Science has enabled me to understand that my true origin and nature are spiritual and that material heredity does not shape my identity or experience. My sister, brother, and I were taught as small children to rely understandingly on God for guidance and healing in every facet of our lives, to find joy in doing the will of our Father-Mother God, and to love God and His universal family. I grew up surrounded by examples of the effectiveness of this spiritual approach.
To learn what brought my family into Christian Science and to find out about key experiences of spiritual growth and healing, I talked with my grandmother, who became interested in Christian Science as a teen-ager and who has been a Christian Science practitioner for several decades. The following conversation is the result, and we share it out of our rejoicing that Christ's Christianity is unchangingly demonstrable, offering sure support for individuals and families.
