Joy, right where we are

I was speaking with a noted opera singer who has performed all over the world. Intrigued by the long list of countries visited, I asked her what her favorite country is. Her face lighted up in a broad smile as she replied, "Why, wherever I am!"

What a recipe for peace and contentment—to enjoy whatever place we are in! When we're away from home and yet having a grand time, it's easy to see that it is not where we are physically but where consciousness dwells that determines both our well-being and our experience.

A truly contented consciousness dwells in an understanding of God and man. The Bible declares that "God is love."I John 4:8. From divine Love flow lovingkindness, joy, peace, and stability. When we are striving to express these qualities, we gain a sense that man is not really separated from God. And in truth we are not. Our true selfhood is God's man, who is one with Him as His spiritual image, reflecting all the qualities of His nature. Understanding this, we see that we are not dependent on human circumstances for satisfaction—that a job, a location, a particular situation, need not deprive us of joy. Divine Love, God, is the only true source of peace and happiness. By understanding and living our unity with Love, we can bring God's joy and satisfaction, stability and safety, to any job, location, or situation we find ourselves in.
