Eliminating discouragement and depression
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden," Christ Jesus promised us, "and I will give you rest." Matt. 11:28. How can we profit from this promise when so much is wrong in the world, when life seems too difficult, hardly worth living, and even the young feel hopeless before the specter of atomic destruction? A deeper understanding of God gives us the answers.
To begin with, let it be understood that the misery and injustice afflicting the world are no part of God's making. They are the products of the whole system of mistaken materialistic thinking, self-supposed and self-imposed. We need not be awed or overwhelmed by any of it. When the situation appears grave, we can turn to God and know we are standing on holy ground where the divine ever-presence is always waiting to help us. And through prayer we, in turn, can help to heal the world's wounds.
