Christian Science, not human will, heals
Some people think that Christian Science practice engages the human mind in an exercise of willpower—a kind of self-mesmerism. But Christian Science practice is actually prayerful Christian discipleship. It expresses, in the way exemplified by Christ Jesus, God's will that men should neither sin nor suffer.
Jesus said, "It is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish." Matt. 18:14. And he expressed the will of God with healing authority. To a leper who said, "If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean," Jesus replied with healing effect, "I will; be thou clean." Matt. 8:2, 3.
Jesus' healing works prove not only that man is maintained in health by God's will but also that he is created by God— immortal, complete, and perfect. The Master's teachings explain his works. His emphasis that there is only one God, one Mind— with one will—is evident throughout the New Testament. Paul urges, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." Phil. 2:5.
