Spiritual regeneration: a prerequisite to healing
Success in healing through Christian Science requires one to realize that vastly more is involved than a temporary remedy or mere quick fix for the difficulties or ailments that seem to afflict us. Rather, Christian Science healing includes a deep inner change or regeneration of our thinking and actions in order to bring them into conformity with the truth of God and man.
This spiritual regeneration involves a willingness to relinquish even our long-held materialistic views of the world and of ourselves. It demands that we no longer live in ignorance of the facts of God's blessed and purely spiritual creation. Through prayer we can and must educate ourselves out of an erroneous belief in mortal existence into an understanding of spiritual truth, and then put into practice what we have learned.
A starting point for spiritual growth is diligent study of the Bible along with the writings of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy. As our study progresses and understanding develops, it should become apparent that Christian Science healing is the natural effect of understanding and following the way of life taught and exemplified by our Master, Christ Jesus. We learn that healing is the result of prayer, of a deeper consecration to living and expressing divine Love, of a change in thought from a material to a more spiritual state of consciousness. As we deepen our dedication to God, our perspective and perception of life and the world become less material. Purified and uplifted, we begin to discern spiritual reality. And this is what heals.
