It is a privilege to submit a testimony again to the Sentinel
It is a privilege to submit a testimony again to the Sentinel. Christian Science has been the only way of life I have ever known. My mother was a longtime Christian Science practitioner. Her mother, who had been an invalid most of her life under other forms of treatment, was healed through Christian Science when my mother was five years old.
I would like to share two more recent healing experiences. One afternoon about four years ago, while sitting outdoors with other members of my family, I was stung on the hand by an insect. The pain was immediate and intense. Just as immediate was the fear expressed by my family, none of whom are Christian Scientists. I silently but instantly denied the fear and pain, knowing that no creature in God's kingdom could harm another. As God's creation, we all live in the atmosphere of divine Love, in which are no elements of evil or evil suggestions. I went inside the house to pray quietly, reaffirming this truth from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 463): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."
That week's Bible Lesson was on the subject "Love," and in reading it again, I was able to see more clearly that no claim of discord, in any form, could rob me of peace and joy. That night, the affected hand and arm were very swollen. I was unable to sleep. But I was comforted in acknowledging God's loving presence and in singing to myself hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal, especially Hymn No. 207, with words by Mrs. Eddy. "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power," it begins.
