Expectation
This morning I checked up
on my expectation.
Am I expecting
the blind to see
the deaf to hear
the crutches to be thrown down
the dead to be raised?
("Why," Paul asked, "should it be thought
a thing incredible with you,
that God should raise the dead?"Acts 26:8.
)
Am I expecting
my own not-as-dramatic difficulties
to be healed—
not merely eased?
Am I expecting
my branch church
to be filled
with seekers for Truth—
not just a little nearer full?
Am I expecting God
to be invariably good, the only power?
Am I expecting—
truly expecting?
And I had to admit
there was work to be done
before my expecting
came up to expectations!
