Christ Jesus—the Saviour

And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. (I John 4:14)

As do other Christians, the Christian Scientist deeply reveres Christ Jesus as Saviour, as the Messiah who was promised in the Old Testament and who came anointed with the grace of God to bring salvation to mankind. In his own words Jesus proclaimed, "I came not to judge the world, but to save the world." John 12:47. He also declared, "The Son of man is come to save that which was lost." Matt. 18:11.

Could it be that what human consciousness had lost sight of was the actual kingdom of God at hand? Humanity's sense of spiritual reality was dimmed by materialism. The vision of mankind had not apprehended the glorious truth of God as omnipotent Spirit, Love, Soul, Life. And consequently mankind was failing to see the truth of man as God's pure likeness, the wholly spiritual expression of Love, the sinless, diseaseless, deathless manifestation of infinite Life.
