When I was about twelve, I was a substitute organist for one month at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, near my home. It was not a large church (nor did they have a large organ!), but I felt a marvelous peace when I was there. I believe that it was as a result of this experience that I eventually became a student of Christian Science some twenty years later. How grateful I have been ever since. I have had many healings, and each has brought me spiritual insight as well as complete removal of the difficulty.

One of my healings occurred a few years ago on a warm summer evening. I was standing barefoot with a group of neighbors chatting in front of our row of houses. As I shifted my foot I felt an intense, sharp pain. I looked to the ground and saw that I had stepped on the burning end of a cigarette that had evidently been tossed away by one of the neighbors.

Immediately I cleared my thought of the belief of injury in three ways: First, I claimed the truth of this statement on page 424 of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony."
