Wednesday testimony meeting and the kingdom of heaven
The house was a mess. Desks and cabinets had been moved and closets emptied, ready for wall-to-wall carpeting to be laid the next day. In five minutes the Wednesday evening testimony meeting in our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, would begin. Here I was—tired, disheveled, and dirty. Did I attend the church service anyway? No, I didn't. I hadn't missed a meeting in years, but this time I fell back into the arms of a sofa and asked myself why I attended church so regularly.
Was it habit?
Was it blind obedience to the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, which provides for midweek meetings?
