Thoughts that reflect light

In his book Twelve Years with Mary Baker Eddy Irving C. Tomlinson speaks of her healing ability. He writes: "Living in the light of Spirit, she radiated that healing light; she could not do otherwise. The sick and the dying found a path to her door and went on their way healed and renewed in body and spirit." Tomlinson (Boston: The Christian Science Publishing Society, 1966), p. 47 .

Mrs. Eddy's healing ability proved that thoughts that have their source in God bring light to humanity, the light of spiritual illumination and realization of God's goodness that dispels dark shadows of fear. If we are to help heal a frightened world as Mrs. Eddy did, our thoughts need to be so illumined with Truth, Life, and Love that they are a light to those who are seeking healing and relief from fear. Nothing is more attractive than the truth of being.

What does it mean to have thought constantly illumined by God, and how are we to do this? Holding steadily in consciousness the spiritual truth that God, good, is All, and that man, our true selfhood, is His spiritual reflection, is keeping thought based in God. Everything we do then flows out from this established fact—that man reflects God and lives to express and glorify Him. Mrs. Eddy speaks of the necessity of keeping thought always in accord with God when she writes, "To live so as to keep human consciousness in constant relation with the divine, the spiritual, and the eternal, is to individualize infinite power; and this is Christian Science." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 160.
