The search for Truth
Mankind has always been searching for Truth, for the absolute, the ultimate reality. But in the search, mankind has often looked for answers in the wrong direction, turning to matter and the human mind.
Physics seeks a unifying principle underlying all so-called forces and phenomena of matter. Philosophy ranges from idealism to nihilism but cannot provide a solid basis for the well-being of mankind. Psychology probes the depths of the human mind, analyzing, rationalizing, and justifying the presence of evil in human consciousness. Many findings claimed as truth are later superseded by new matter-based theories. But would not ultimate reality have to be unchanging good, blessing all?
To the materialist, Spirit is something so vague and intangible that it does not occur to him to look to Spirit for truth. If Spirit is granted any existence at all, it is as only one facet of human nature, with physicality being so obviously predominant. Yet Christianity turns our gaze to Spirit alone for lasting values. The Apostle Paul warns, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." Col. 2:8.
