God's law compels progress
God rules His infinite and wholly good creation, including His likeness, man, through spiritual laws that express the goodness and allness of His own nature. In eternal progression these mighty laws unfold, precluding the claims of evil—sin, disease, and death—by producing and preserving holiness, harmony, and immortality.
God's spiritual laws act through His Christ, Truth, to redeem and heal mankind. And Christ is more than a past influence for good. Christ Jesus, who exemplified Christ, Truth, taught people how to align themselves with spiritual law through obedience to such moral laws as the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes. He demonstrated by his example that as one draws into accord with divine reality through obedience, he experiences the redeeming and healing effects of God's spiritual laws. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes concerning such proof of Christian power, "This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil." Science and Health, p. 233.
As the full expression of God, man—our true selfhood— reflects the action of God-sustained spiritual law with implicit obedience. Jesus said of God's power to express His goodness, "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." John 6:37.
