Scripture and Science
The conviction that prayer can heal disease often meets with skepticism. And yet, adherents of quite divergent religious beliefs have received answers to their prayers in the form of physical healing.
Faith, an element of all religion, plays an essential role in healing through prayer. But just as mere faith in the principle of mathematics is inadequate to the successful use of this science, in religion, faith alone seldom solves the problem. The axiom that understanding must be gained to master any science can be equally applied to the practice of religion.
As its name indicates, Christian Science is not only religion, it is Science. Although mistakenly associated with faith healing, it is not the same. Its practical prayer is deeply rooted in an understanding of Christ-healing that can be termed scientific. There are precise spiritual laws and orderly rules to be followed, which, when linked to firm faith in God and to a degree of spiritual understanding of the teachings of Jesus, have enabled many thousands to rely confidently on its healing power.
