Finding the words for it

More words than ever before in the history of mankind are being poured out today. But most of them seem like adding dry sand to an already massive desert.

The Bible, however, is full of words that satisfy our deepest thirst. How many times a Bible verse has carried us through difficult situations! We all have our favorites. One of mine is "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee." Isa. 26:3. And another: "There is a path ... which the vulture's eye hath not seen." Job 28:7. Then there is "Ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands." Isa. 55:12.

An acquaintance of mine once found this latter verse coming to thought when faced with an apparently desperate situation. Someone had told her that a relative who was ill was "not out of the woods yet." Because she had been praying from the standpoint of Christian Science, she thought, "maybe not, but 'the trees of the field' are clapping their hands." Soon afterward the relative was completely healed through the Christian Scientist's continuing prayer.
