If you're searching for happiness
It was a rather ordinary day. Nothing particularly spectacular had happened. And yet suddenly my whole thought was flooded with the most extraordinary happiness. It's not quite possible to put into words the fullness of the joy that I felt. And there didn't seem to be any obvious reason for it.
As I pondered the meaning of that experience, a sentence from Science and Health came to me. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Earth has little light or joy for mortals before Life is spiritually learned." Science and Health, p. 548. It became quite clear that the happiness I'd been feeling was the natural outcome of what I had been learning of my true nature as God's incorporeal man and of my relationship to God.
Most of us feel happy about some wonderful event. But nothing can quite compare to those sublime moments of realizing—really feeling—our spiritual unity with God. And the joy that comes from those moments is lasting. As Science and Health says, "When the real is attained, which is announced by Science, joy is no longer a trembler, nor is hope a cheat." ibid., p. 298.
