God has richly blessed our family with many healings since my first testimony of gratitude for Christian Science was published in the Sentinel in 1964.
One outstanding healing took place for our son, who from the age of five had attended the Christian Science Sunday School regularly. He was in college at the time of the Vietnam War, when he volunteered to serve in the National Guard. While undergoing the necessary physical examination, he was told that he needed glasses to correct a vision problem. (He had always had good eyesight.)
Although he complied with the request that he wear glasses, we prayed about the situation. The first chapter of Genesis states (verse 27), "God created man in his own image" and (verse 31), "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." We realized that true sight is spiritual, untouched by a false claim of imperfection. Mrs. Eddy assures us (Science and Health, p. 486): "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immortality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter,—hence their permanence."
