I cannot express enough gratitude for Christian Science, especially for the many instances of protection I have had through my growth in understanding and trusting God, our Father-Mother. As we read in the Bible (Prov. 3:5): "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."

One time my husband and I were to tow a car from Spokane, Washington, to Pasadena, California. Before leaving Spokane, my husband remarked that he thought the towing apparatus looked rather small. However, he did not question it further as we had never towed before and the individual for whom we were doing the towing was in the automobile leasing business. Also, we were on a tight schedule. But I reminded my husband that God was in control. (At the time I was only halfheartedly applying the teachings of Christian Science; but in that moment I felt sure of God's presence.)

The next morning we started out. Shortly after we encountered a severe bump at a railroad crossing, my husband looked in the rearview mirror and saw the towed car starting to come around our car. Before we could comprehend what was happening, we had spun around 180 degrees, landing in a soft sandy shoulder facing the opposite direction. This occurred on a winding, two-lane road with sheer drops on both sides, except for the area where we had landed. Neither of us was hurt, nor were any other cars involved. We will never forget that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1).
