God never afflicts man
Do we sometimes blame God for our troubles? Perhaps we even believe that God is punishing us, or that He is putting us to the test to find out just how faithful we are.
In believing that discordant conditions are of His making, we have mistakenly shifted the responsibility for our actions away from ourselves by falsely thinking that God is either avenging our sins or testing us—or worse, that He has forsaken us in our moment of need.
God loves man, His child, the real selfhood of each of us. Since He has made man good, in His image and likeness, He is pleased with him. The Bible indicates God's tender love for His creation with these words of assurance: "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you." Isa. 66:13. Armed with this promise of motherly love and protection, we can be assured that God never afflicts us but is always caring for us and blessing us.
