Gratitude opens the door to God's creation

Feeling low and depressed, I knew, was no answer to anything. I wanted to get back on track, and I knew God would show me how. I had this promise in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "Christian Science acts as an alterative, neutralizing error with Truth." And a little later, "The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind." Science and Health, p. 162. I knew I needed a mental change of base.

I reasoned that I was not an unhappy mortal but divine Spirit's own offspring—well supplied and well cared for in all ways because God was ever caring for and governing me. I realized that He supplies all His creation, including me, with His own spiritual qualities. Understanding this, we will have the intelligence we need to guide us in all we do, the love to deal with others compassionately, the joy and vitality to express each moment, a sense of order, and in fact all the good qualities we need to live fruitful, loving, intelligent lives.

I saw that continually dwelling on a problem or rehearsing negative circumstances is apt to cause one to wallow around in self-pity. But turning to God, Truth, and then thankfully looking for evidence of His qualities expressed in oneself here and now bring thought—and experience—into accord with Truth.
