I have been a student of Christian Science since...
I have been a student of Christian Science since 1944 and have had many instantaneous healings. One was of chronic constipation early in my study of Science. Another was of influenza. I have had many healings that took much consecrated study, but each one brought spiritual growth. My daughter was raised in Christian Science and had none of the so-called childhood diseases.
In the summer of 1969 I spent a week with my daughter. On the last day of my visit she invited a friend and her little one-and-a-half-year-old daughter to spend the afternoon. My daughter's apartment faced a large court, which the little child and I took a walk around. When we returned to the apartment, we stopped on the porch, as the child was interested in the activity of a group of people gathering for a cookout. The porch had a railing, so I thought the child would be safe if I stepped inside. But I left the sliding glass doors partially open, just in case I needed to get to her quickly. She stood quietly in one place for a while, but then, suddenly, she ran for the steps. In my eagerness to get to her, I became completely oblivious of the glass doors, and plunged headfirst into them. The impact knocked me out.
The noise of the shattering glass must have brought people, because when I regained consciousness, a young man gave me his hand and helped me up, and another one asked someone to bring me a chair. At this point I was fully conscious. But apparently everyone else was in something of a state of shock—especially my daughter and the mother of the child. Still I knew I was all right. I asked someone to bring me a towel so I could go clean myself up. Then, as my daughter and I were going inside, someone said to her, "Now, you must take your mother to the hospital. She will need stitches and to have the glass removed." Just then the bleeding stopped. Of course, I never went to the hospital, nor did I get stitches, although I had several cuts on my body and many scratches on my face.
