Reading Rooms—"a desert place apart"

There is often a need in one's life for moments of quietude away from pulls and pressures of the day—for a place in which to be alone with God. A Christian Science Reading Room is such a place.

Christ Jesus sometimes sought a haven apart from mortal demands, and so should we. He withdrew to pray and afterward came away uplifted and refreshed for further healing work. Sometimes he invited his disciples to come with him. On one such occasion he said, "Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while." Mark 6:31.

The Reading Room is a quiet corner in which to rest, study, and pray—a shelter from the cares of life, a place promotive of heavenly inspiration. In this atmosphere of peace and holiness healings are bound to take place as one devotedly contemplates and accepts the reality of true being. God's tender presence becomes evident to one who hungers for release from a discordant condition, as well as for the one who seeks a closer acquaintanceship with God.
