Since becoming interested in Christian Science...
Since becoming interested in Christian Science over sixty years ago, I have had many proofs of the truth of the Bible promise (Ps. 46:1) "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
An outstanding healing for which I am deeply grateful took place early in 1982 when I was living alone. After preparing breakfast one morning I apparently passed out, because I remembered nothing until late that afternoon, when I became aware that I was in hospital. Later I learned the reason for this. A relative (who is not a Christian Scientist) had been trying to get in touch with me during the day by telephone but had received no response to his repeated calls. Finally he had come to the house. I had locked up the previous night, so he was unable to get in. But realizing something was wrong, he called my neighbor (a police officer), and they broke into the house. They found me lying on the kitchen floor, unconscious. An ambulance was called and I was rushed to hospital.
My first conscious thought was one of gratitude for the loving care being given me. That gratitude increased daily during my stay there. (Here let me say that the only reason I remained in hospital was that there was no member of the family able to care for me.) Doctors had diagnosed the illness as a stroke, coupled with heart failure. But no medication was given, because I had been registered as a Christian Scientist.
