FROM THE DIRECTORS
The action of a Detroit judge in dismissing all charges of neglect and misrepresentation against The Mother Church and two Christian Science practitioners—charges brought by a former Michigan couple—stands as a vital recognition, by the law, of the religious nature of Christian Science practice and of the constitutional freedoms that protect it.
A further blessing from the whole experience has been a newly awakened sense of spiritual unity among Christian Scientists worldwide. Truly it has been said that our movement is not growing old but growing up—awakening to the full dimension of what the power of Christian Science demonstrated means to humanity and of what it means to be part of this great Cause. A new sense of spiritual realism and commitment among Christian Scientists everywhere and a continuing strong record of solid healings, sometimes in the face of great opposition—these are proofs of what this spiritual awakening can accomplish.
One rejoices over each victory but does not rest content with it until the whole campaign is won. In the midst of great adversities—and magnificent victories—Mrs. Eddy constantly urged her followers to stay awake. In words that stand as a beacon to her Church she wrote: "Defeat need not follow victory. Joy over good achievements and work well done should not be eclipsed by some lost opportunity, some imperative demand not yet met" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 134).
