Where inspiration and practicality meet
"Yes, but you've got to be practical!" Useful advice, perhaps, to awaken one from a dream world, but where does inspired, prayer-based action come in? How practical—or impractical—is prayer?
The Bible assures us, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16. So when we're seeking an inspired decision, we may reassure ourselves that our prayers will lead to the most practical, the most effective action possible.
First, we may need to consider the role of righteousness—the righteousness, or rightness, of the enterprise; more important, our own righteousness. It's the righteous man's prayer that "availeth much." We might even say that our effectiveness is in proportion to our recognition, through upright living, of man's true Christ-likeness Here's where human footsteps rightly come in.
