We can walk with God
Most of us enjoy walking in the sunshine. But how about a cold rain? When a small California town held a "walk for mankind" to benefit people in need, three hundred and forty young people walked in a driving, cold rain. They did it because of their commitment to help others (and the sponsors pledged their support, rain or shine). In a sense, they were walking with God, demonstrating unselfishness and dedication to high ideals.
A young Christian Scientist who worked for a large corporation overseas had the opportunity to bring his life much closer to God. The man lived in a barracks with many men and had little opportunity for daily study of the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. He felt quite discouraged about spending several years in that atmosphere. On one particularly noisy evening when there was much drinking, he decided to go for a long walk, although he had all the symptoms of flu.
As he walked on the deserted streets of the company compound, he remembered a verse from one of Mrs. Eddy's poems:
