I have been a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist,...

I have been a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, for over twenty years, and I am a class-taught student of Christian Science. This testimony expresses my gratitude for the many, many blessings and healings I've had. Three years ago, a few days before leaving on vacation, I discovered I was hemorrhaging. After the initial shock I was able to calm my thought by refuting the aggressive suggestion of disorder and affirming the spiritual truth of my real being. We are told in the first chapter of Genesis that God created man in His own image (see Gen. 1:27). I knew that in reality, as the image of God, I was perfect, whole, complete. I also acknowledged that my life was governed by spiritual law, God-protected and God-directed.

Soon I felt the courage of my convictions and was free to proceed with the trip as planned. I did not tell anyone about the physical condition nor call a Christian Science practitioner for help, because I was desirous of working out the problem myself. I enjoyed the trip but was glad to return home, since the physical evidence had not changed and I felt in need of more time for prayer than it seemed possible to have while traveling.

After some weeks I did call a practitioner. The way to victory was not easy or quick. However, after several months of prayer and study the healing of hemorrhaging did come, and with it a much-needed change in many aspects of my life. My blessings included a new home in another location and an opportunity to join a branch church in that area. Also I was receiving more inspiration than ever from my study of Christian Science. I was very grateful for these changes. Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says in the textbook (Science and Health, p. 22), "Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified."
