Update on Michigan court case

The July issue of The Christian Science Journal provided background on an important court case brought against The Mother Church and two Christian Science practitioners. It was expected this case would come to trial in Detroit, Michigan, in August 1982. There has now been a postponement, or stay, of the trial date while our appeal on a pretrial court ruling can be heard.

It is possible that the case will not come to trial until sometime in 1983.

In the past several months, the strong prayer and support of the Field on this subject have been wonderfully evident. Some extensive praying and spiritual awakening have been going on! The issues in the case have not changed—they are just as significant as before. Only a date has been changed. The issues remain the constitutional freedom to practice one's religion, the right to choose to rely solely on prayer for oneself and to pray for others at their request—and, ultimately, the preservation of practical and spiritual Christianity in this era. Obviously, this is a time for continuing prayer and steadfastness.
