Evidence of "God with us"*
When first learning the good news of Christian Science teachings, a new student often feels a profound joy to know that the Christ-power is here now and accessible to us. The realization dawns that this divine influence is always available because Christ is Truth, incorporeal and timeless— unseen to material sense but bringing palpable healing to mind and body and perpetually voicing itself through spiritual sense to all who are receptive to it.
All of us seek relief from the sense of mystery and fear, isolation and loneliness, that so often haunts mortal life. There's a profound yearning to know what God is and to feel a relationship with Him. An understanding that the Christ is present today—and proof of the Christ-power in healing— supply confirmation and evidence that the divine influence does indeed reach humanity.
From the standpoint of Christian Science it is plain that the eternal Truth shown forth by Christ Jesus was not confined to his humanhood (as he himself made clear) or to the age in which he lived, nor was the Christ defeated on the cross; rather the deathless Christ is always at hand, in this age and all ages, providing unmistakable evidence that the divine power does indeed reach the human need. Christ Jesus spoke of this when he told the disciples, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." 28:20. The realization of this often brings the student of Christian Science a sense of soaring joy—the same impulsion that swept away the gloom of the disciples and sent them forth after the resurrection to share the gospel with others.
