Challenge those murmurings!

The first day back to school for my two teen-agers and academically employed husband dawned brightly. Frankly, though, it depressed me that the freedom of summer was over and the dull routine of winter was about to set in. (The situation may work in reverse for others, but the lessons learned are indispensable either way.)

I found myself grumbling over the three bag lunches I had to make, the lengthening hours of darkness, and the gray days of the season. Suddenly Paul's admonition in his letter to the Philippians hit me: "Do all things without murmurings and disputings."

Surely he could not have meant to include making bag lunches! Yet the message was unmistakable. Either I could endeavor to see the wisdom in his communication or I could continue murmuring over day-to-day responsibilities.
