As an adult I responded to the heavenly Father's guidance and was brought into contact with a family of Christian Scientists. The woman of the house was very kind and shared freely from her rich storehouse of scientific truths. I couldn't help taking her a gift each time I visited her. This was done out of sheer joy over the spiritual treasures I was left with after every visit. She told me that one could get well by reading the book Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I didn't believe that, but nevertheless took home the Christian Science periodicals she offered me.

However, I found that the reading required more concentration and effort than just listening to an inspired person voicing the truths she knew and loved. What little I read of the periodicals I did not understand, and they seemed not at all interesting. After two weeks I returned them. The woman then gave me other Christian Science literature, and I was glad that I had at least got rid of the first bunch. But she expressed so much love that I took more to please her. I was encouraged to read slowly in order to gain some understanding, and to buy a Bible, which I did.

Soon resistance melted away, and I was regularly studying the Bible and Science and Health. I found both to be illuminating. The Christian Science periodicals also took on new meaning for me. At last I, too, could hope to demonstrate the divine law of Life, Truth, and Love, as elucidated in the writings of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. And I could also appreciate the sacrifices she made in walking faithfully in the footsteps of our Master, Christ Jesus.
