About two years ago I found it necessary to undergo some dental work. Having moved to a new area, I made an appointment with a local dentist. Because I was a new patient, he asked me a great many questions, among them, "Have you had any serious illnesses during the past five years?" I replied, "You mean during the past eighty-five years." He was astonished and said, "I want to be like you." Indeed, Christian Science has been a healing influence in my life throughout a long period. Healing has come as I've acknowledged God's allness and refused to accept disease as being real or powerful.
During my early years in Christian Science, I received much help and support from Christian Science practitioners, friends, and members of my own family. It has been my endeavor to repay, as much as possible and in a universal way, the good that I have received, by helping others.
On page 566 of Science and Health, our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, relates how the children of Israel were guided through the Red Sea and the wilderness. In considering my own life, I liken the Red Sea to my service in the First World War, and the wilderness to the many sustaining proofs of Love's abundant provision during trying times of the 1930's Depression. Challenges, both then and now, have forced me to seek the guidance of divine Principle. And I have benefited by this seeking in proportion as I have been willing to yield to its law and give up much material thinking.
