Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care." At one point in my life, within a short period I lost my job, our new house had to be sold, and the dissolution of my marriage began. It seemed as if all the good in my life was gone.

The Christian Science practitioner I called for help urged me to work out the problems, and to look for blessings beyond the appearance of calamity. Class instruction in Christian Science, which I'd received two months earlier, was also a great support in my prayers. I studied the Bible in an effort to see God as the all-wise creator of a perfect universe, and to realize that, as His man, I was necessary and useful in His plan. I recognized that man's sole purpose is to express God, Life.

Throughout this time, I spent many lunch hours studying in a Christian Science Reading Room to gain a clearer understanding of God and my relationship to Him. I stopped praying for events to work according to my plan. Instead, I prayed more deeply to see that God governs at all times and in all ways, and that because of this I could trust Him entirely. Soon, I began to realize my divine right to joy, harmony, and abundance.
