It is a wonderful thing to learn in Christian Science that the divine Principle of being is the supreme power. We can trust this power and realize, in the words of John (I John 3:2), "Beloved, now are we the sons of God."

When our son was in his late teens, he began to seem unreasonable and difficult. Moreover, he was determined to marry a girl whose outlook and interests seemed very different from his own. I remembered a Christian Scientist had once commented that it is natural to have standards of compatibility. As I considered this concept, I was able to be genuinely kind to the girl and uncritical of her in conversations with our son.

Also helpful was the acknowledgment that since God, immortal Principle, is unchanging, His reflection, man, cannot change. In his true being our son had never stopped expressing the qualities that had brought us such joy during his boyhood. I recalled the old fairy stories in which an ugly changeling is substituted for the real son, to the despair of the parents. And I prayed with all my heart to understand that God, who is all-encompassing Love, permits no trickery of mortal belief.
