The quality of our prayers
God is forever revealing Himself, reaching mankind through His Christ. Active prayer enables us to discern Christ and know God as He is—perfect, whole, the Father-Mother of all. Prayer starts right where we are and begins to be answered the moment it moves us in even the smallest way. By praying to God, we are acknowledging that God is near, and man is inseparably related to Him.
Such acknowledgment acts as a light in the dark. And that is the way prayer is answered; it enlightens our consciousness, moving us away from merely material considerations, enabling us to see changeless good right where we thought it was not. Such inward change has outward evidence. But prayer doesn't just change things; it changes us. "All Christian faith, hope, and prayer, all devout desire, virtually petition, Make me the image and likeness of divine Love," Message to The Mother Church for 1902, p. 6. writes Mary Baker Eddy. Becoming more aware of ourselves as Love's likeness, we approach issues with more uplifting and healing touch.
Spiritual man, the eternal selfhood of each of us, has no needs, not even the need for regeneration. Man does not have to become like God; he is forever God's very image.
