A Christian Scientist for approximately thirty years, I have had many healings through applying the spiritual truths given in Science and Health by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Recently I was lighting the pilot on our gas furnace when flames shot out and burned my face and one hand. Immediately I claimed my unity with God by affirming my true and inviolate perfecton as His child. I also insisted that divine reality precludes the belief of accident.

Then I called a Christian Science practitioner. She talked to me about God's profound love for all His offspring and pointed out that His power and presence were sustaining me right where I was. She encouraged me to spiritualize my thinking by exchanging "the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul," words found in Science and Health (p. 269): "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul."

Concerned about the busy week ahead, I was tempted to cancel the many activities that were planned. But my conversation with the practitioner strengthened my conviction in Spirit's healing law, and I was able to fulfill every obligation. I made no mention of the incident to anybody, and no one questioned me about my appearance.
