The light that keeps on shining

"Let your light shine!" I was constantly encouraged by others. I realized that expressing joy, peace, love, understanding, and other good qualities was "letting my light shine." But, what was the source of this light? Did it have another name? Would it ever go out? These questions needed clearer answers.

The answers came through study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. In The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany she is quoted as stating, "If we say that the sun stands for God, then all his rays collectively stand for Christ, and each separate ray for men and women." Miscellany, p. 344. And in the Bible Christ Jesus says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matt. 5:16. Taken together, these references made it very clear to me that the light I was to express was the Christ, which has its source in God. The good one does is his uniquely individual expression of the Christ light. This expression is for the glory of God. It glorifies Deity because it comes from Him, the source of all good.

Just as the sun would not even be the sun without the rays of light that shine from it, God would not be God without man as His expression. If man were annihilated, God would not be expressed and would no longer be God. Mrs. Eddy says in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health: "God, without the image and likeness of Himself, would be a nonentity, or Mind unexpressed. He would be without a witness or proof of His own nature." Science and Health, p. 303. As Mind's individual expression, every one of us is absolutely necessary to God in order that He may be fully manifested throughout eternity. Not one of us can ever be left out of this limitless manifestation.
