"To-day the healing power of Truth is widely demonstrated as an immanent, eternal Science, instead of a phenomenal exhibition....This coming, as was promised by the Master, is for its establishment as a permanent dispensation among men; but the mission of Christian Science now, as in the time of its earlier demonstration, is not primarily one of physical healing." So writes the dauntless Leader of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy, in her profound textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures on page 150.

The far-ranging scope of the teachings of Christian Science provides the rich soil for the recording of a memorable experience. In assuming a new position several years ago in the field of fund raising, I was required to develop an effective way to communicate with a large segment of a metropolitan community. Several trustees strongly recommended that I simply update an existing presentation. Yet I was unwilling to settle for what I regarded as a tired and fruitless presentation.

For many weeks, as I reluctantly entered my office in this nonprofit organization, I asked myself in frustration, "Why can't I take the necessary steps to fulfill this challenge—to get this project off the ground?" Feeling quite guilty as the days turned into weeks, in desperation I finally called a staunch Christian Scientist, who was a good friend, about my predicament. Such exasperation and discouragement I had never felt!
