Take time for station identification
One evening while watching television, I suddenly became aware of how many times the call letters of the station appeared. Then I asked myself, How many times do you stop to identify yourself correctly?
Such identification is not only important but essential to spiritual progress. Why? Because the world thinks man is material, matter-based and matter-encased. Human belief claims man is born into matter, lives for a limited number of years in matter, and then dies in matter.
But this is the Adam man that the allegorical second chapter of Genesis tells us of. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states, "Divide the name Adam into two syllables, and it reads, a dam, or obstruction." Science and Health, p. 338; Identifying ourselves with the Adam man would block our seeing and being our real self—the man God has made—wholly spiritual, infinitely free, absolutely perfect. This false identification would make us believe we are separated from God, and that notion is what makes us feel afraid and alone. But in proportion as we hold to the fact that man is God's spiritual idea, united to Him every moment, we can rest secure in the consciousness of the warm blanket of God's love that encompasses our entire being.
